Thai coconut ice cream is no stranger to anyone who visited the Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok. Having said that, a cold dessert in hand is usually the perfect solution to combat the hot weather.
Pong Gelato at Scape was probably the first in Singapore (at least prominent one), some others and Wimi soon followed suit.
The simple takeaway store at the new 321 Clementi Mall, Wimi Ice Cream is named after the 2 owners, WIlson Lim and MIke Koh, selling Thai Coconut Ice Cream ($4.90), Coconut Softserve ($3 for cup, $3.50 for cone) and Fresh Coconut ($3.30).
(Daniel says that if he were to open a shop with Nicholas one day, it will be called ‘Dani’).
No dine- in seating area, just a long stretch of green grass patch outside. People may start having picnic on that beautiful soft green grass soon.
Their signature Thai Coconut Ice Cream ($4.90) came with 3 toppings such as peanut, aloe vera, atap seed, chendol, grass jelly and sweet corn. Top up $0.50 for additional topping or $0.80 for premium topping such as red ruby, mango or taro yam.
Each Thai Coconut Ice Cream also came with a small cup of coconut water to cleanse your palate before savoring the ice cream.
The in-house made coconut ice cream set atop thin slices of coconut flesh with colourful toppings made it appetizing. They emphasized that no stabilisers and preservatives were added and everything was made fresh daily.
The coconut ice cream was thick and creamy, but lacked the richness of coconut milk. Without the toppings, it could be pretty bland on its own. We loved the coconut flesh which was smooth and fleshy though.
The Fresh Coconut ($3.30) had 10 benefits other than being a thirst- quencher (they actually wrote all the benefits on their chiller). From boosting immune system to aid in digestion and weight loss, ok we need that! #TakeMyMoney.
The coconut water was sweet with soft coconut flesh. Just a suggestion, maybe a longer spoon for scooping the coconut flesh will be good.
Love the idea of something cooling and refreshing on our sunny island and looking forward to a richer version of the coconut ice cream.
